Amigo
7 years and 2 months…. Do you remember what you have done in the last 7 year? Amigo remembers, because every hour, day, week, month and year of the last 7 years he has done the same thing - sit in his kennel and look at the cement wall in front of him, listen to the other dogs bark, dream of a silent night sleep and a human to walk next to. Amigo likes humans very much and is dreaming of a human who will dedicate time and love to get to know him, who will make a bit of an effort to build a bond. Years and years go by and Amigo goes walking with many different volunteers, but noone to call his own. Amigo doesn’t like other dogs much, so he has been living in the back area of the shelter, going for walks with more experienced volunteers, which means that he has been walking only on Saturdays. If we do a little math, we can literally count the number of walks Amigo has had in his last 7 years in the shelter. Unbearable…. Amigo walks very well on the leash especially in relaxed environments like a forest, and he is in fact obedient and attentive, he just needs a confidently relaxed person on his side, who will walk beside him and reassure him. When Amigo passes by a dog that he does not like, he does get upset, barks and lunges, however when he is together with the human he trusts, and the human confidently tell him “No”, then Amigo follows your lead and passes by the stressful situation much calmer. For everyone to have a more relaxed life, then for Amigo we are looking for a home in an environment with perhaps not thousands of dogs, or a home with a garden, where he can enjoy outdoors also without always having to go for walks on city streets. A home close to the nature would be a dream for Amigo, to sniff all the grass that he has missed in these years, to feel the soil and the sand under his feet, instead of wet cement or hot asphalt. Amigo is counting the days and the number of his days in the shelter is getting so high that he does not even know how to count so high…. 2604 days today, a record number of lonely days in history. He entered the shelter when he was just one year old. Amigo reacts very well to his name and when you offer him snacks, he takes them gently from your hand and does not get obsessed over it. He also appreciates the occasional McDonald’s nugget! Amigo travels so well in the car that you would think he is a normal family dog, travelling in the car every day! He also enjoys going splish-splash in the water and then shaking the water all over you! Amigo likes to be petted in a calm way, by his trusted people, but he is also respectful with kind strangers. He will be the best amigo to his human companion. Amigo has been ready for a home for many years already, can we all together find his address?
